Okay – you’ve clicked the link (which is what I was selfishly chasing) and are probably (and rightfully) pissed off. (AND YES – I was cheating when I used that dog because I knew it would get you to click despite what the caption said.)

BUT!!!

Now that you’re here…give me a minute? Please? You’ll see what I mean. (and if you still hate me, I’ll own it.)

You’re Getting Fired. Now What?

Look…nobody expects to get fired—except the people who deserve it. And if you are expecting it? You’re probably not doing a damn thing to stop it.

If you just got the “we need to talk” meeting invite, or you have that gut feeling that the walls are closing in, this is for you. And if you don’t see it coming? This is for you, too—because you probably should.

1 – The Lie You’ve Been Telling Yourself

You think that because you work hard, you’re safe.

You think that because your boss smiles at you, you’re valued.

You think that because you’ve given years to this company, they’ll think twice before tossing you.

You are wrong.

Jobs don’t end with sirens. They end with silence. Your coworkers stop making eye contact. Your boss gets vague. Decisions are made without you. And by the time you notice? You were gone before they even told you.

2 – Two Types of People Get Fired—Both Earned It

A. The One Who Saw It Coming

You’ve been coasting. Maybe you stopped pushing yourself. Maybe you started playing the victim. Maybe you leaned too much on tenure, a friendship, or an outdated skill set. You knew the writing was on the wall, but instead of grabbing a pen and rewriting the story, you waited for someone else to finish it for you.

You didn’t get fired out of nowhere. You let it happen.

B. The One Who Never Saw It Coming

You thought you were irreplaceable. You thought “they’d never do that to me.” You thought your work spoke for itself. But in every gangster movie, who’s the last person to see it coming? The loyal soldier. The one who never suspected betrayal, who thought relationships mattered more than the bottom line.

Newsflash: You were replaceable the whole time. You just never checked.

3 – The Gut Punch Reality: Nobody Owes You Anything

That company? It’s a machine. It doesn’t have feelings. It doesn’t remember the extra hours you put in or the vacations you skipped. Your boss? They probably liked you. Maybe they even fought for you. But when the choice came down to you or them? They didn’t pick you.

Loyalty doesn’t get rewarded. Awareness does. Adaptability does. The ability to see the game before you’re played does.

4 – What You Need to Do Now

1. Take the Hit, Then Get Up – You can sit around blaming the company, the economy, or bad luck. Or you can look in the mirror and own your role in this. Because if you don’t, it will happen again.

2. Figure Out Why It Happened – Was it performance? Politics? A shifting industry? If you don’t understand why you got cut, you’re just walking blind into the next trap (oh and lying to yourself.)

3. Stop Looking for “Job Security” and Start Building Career Security – The only real job security is knowing that if they fire you today, you’ll have five offers tomorrow. That doesn’t come from loyalty. It comes from leverage. It comes from skills, networking, and always being in demand. Security is a myth unless you make it so that IF they fired you, you couldn’t give a shit less. Period. (See also: “Fuck You Money”)

4. Don’t Wait for the Next Axe to Fall – If you’re still employed but feel the storm coming, move first. Update your resume. Take meetings. Learn new skills. Get uncomfortable before someone else makes you.

Final Truth: It Was Always on You

Nobody’s coming to save you. Not your boss. Not HR. Not the company you gave years to.

But that’s good news—because it means you have the power to make sure this never happens to you again.

You got fired? Good. Now use it. Be smarter. Be sharper. And next time? Be the one making the calls, not the one waiting for them.

I hope this helps.
